HANDMADE PRODUKT RESEARCH DEPARTMENT

KNITSONIK design stationery in production

KNITSONIKTM “PRODUKT RESEARCH DEPARTMENT DIREKTOR” Dr Felicity Ford has been developing KNITSONIKTM worksheets to assist in the organisation of design ideas for handknitted garments designed to

atune the wearer’s imagination to the act of listening
minimise the unwanted sonic interference that non-woollen clothes impose onto sound-recording processes
combat the swoosh of jeans, the rustle of waterproof jackets, and the anti-headphone style of many hats

KNITSONIKTM believes in a total design KONCEPTTM which means that even the stationery used to document KNITSONIKTM PROJEKTS must reflect the technical, utilitarian, handmade ethos of the KNITSONIKTM directive. Customised rubber stamps have been designed in order to furnish all KNITSONIKTM materials with a distinctive branding.

One such stamp was derived from a photograph of the first KNITSONIKTM endeavour; the act of covering 32 miniature speakers in knitting, to create an immersive, knitting, sonik environment. That seminal act spawned the genesis of KNITSONIKTM and so it is emblematic for a speaker from that definitive KNITSONIKTM PROJEKT to find its way into the contemporary KNITSONIKTM styling.

Other elements of the KNITSONIKTM branding include many stationery elements designed to help KNITSONIKTM designers to record important technical data for the realisation of KNITSONIKTM designs. So, one rubber stamp has been designed to assist with documenting GAUGE. You never know when you might need to make a KNITSONIKTM note of how many rows and sts per inch are required for best SONIK EFFEKT.

Gauge stamp, feat. space to select whether you are counter per inches or cms, and how many sts per measurment.

Also, KNITSONIKTM have been devising a system for keeping track of all KNITSONIKTM designs, via this handy label, which is being affixed to all KNITSONIKTM worksheets.

Finally, whilst devising the KNITSONIKTM stationery, it has been vital to make sure that we have a way of putting an instant stamp on our work, and of officially authorising all KNITSONIKTM designs as such.

More KNITSONIKTM PRODUKTS to come; in the meantime, you will be able to see the KNITSONIKTM stationery fufilling its function in the Prick Your Finger Gallery during Felicity Ford’s residency there between 4th and 12th May, 2011.

KNITSONIKTM was inspired today by the TSARINA of TSOCKS whose excellent post on the technical details of TSOCK YARN provided a refreshing read. KNITSONIKTM was also inspired by POCKET CALCULATOR by KRAFTWERK, which helped many pixel/gauge measuring exercises necessary to stationery creation.
